The promises of God were designed for times of storm and drought—for times of uncertainty and lack.

We often think the evidence of God’s faithfulness will be a life free from difficulty. We imagine that if we are following Him, the road should become easier and the battles should disappear. But God’s promises do not always remove the storm.

What better experience can you have than finding Someone who has exactly what you need in every situation? That is exactly who God wants to be for you. He wants to meet your needs and even fulfill your desires.

When God redeemed the Israelites from Egypt, He gave them the promise of a land of their own. Years later, as Joshua prepared to lead them into that Promised Land, God reminded him:

“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
—Joshua 1:5

The presence of the battles to come did not mean the promise had failed.

In fact, their years in the wilderness had taught them lessons they would need in the Promised Land. They had learned how to depend on God for their daily provision. They had learned that He could guide them when they did not know the way. They had experienced His protection, correction, mercy, and faithfulness.

The wilderness had not been wasted. God had used it to prepare them.

What better assurance could we have than an all-knowing God whom we can trust with our future?

God had already established the promise of who He is when He met Moses at the burning bush and revealed His name: “I AM.”

God did not say, “I was.” He is not merely the God of yesterday—the God who performed miracles long ago but is distant from our lives today.

He did not say, “I will be someday.” We do not have to wait for Him to become what we need.

He is I AM—present, powerful, and sufficient right now.

When we are sick, He says, “I AM your healer.”

When we are afraid, He says, “I AM your refuge.”

When we feel lost, He says, “I AM the way.”

When we are weary, He says, “I AM your strength.”

When we feel alone or unloved, He reminds us, “I AM love.”

God may not prevent every storm from entering our lives, but He promises to be with us through every one. His presence steadies us. His Word anchors us. His faithfulness teaches us that we can endure what once would have overwhelmed us.

You are not storm-proof because you are strong enough to handle everything on your own. You are storm-proof because the great I AM is with you.

The storm may shake you, but it does not have to destroy you. The wilderness may exhaust you, but it cannot cancel God’s promise. The battle may be difficult, but it does not mean God has abandoned you.

Whatever you need, He is.
