Proverbs 14:1
“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”
Lord, today help me become the wise woman who builds her house. What does that truly look like?
What does it look like to build a home while living from a place of rest? How do I keep the busyness on the outside from creeping into my heart? Rather than simply asking, “What should I do?” perhaps I should ask, “What should I believe?”
Maybe the answer isn’t another to-do list. Maybe it’s a change in belief.
Can I begin to see the blessing hidden inside ordinary tasks? Can washing the dishes become more than another chore? Can it become gratitude for a clean kitchen, stewardship of the home You’ve given me, and nourishment for my heart and soul?
Can I approach the mundane with anticipation, believing that You will meet me there? That You will supply the strength, joy, and energy I need in that very moment?
I’ve noticed that when I’ve successfully simplified my life and my endless lists of chores, it wasn’t because I became more disciplined. It was because I caught sight of a greater purpose. I realized that You were not only waiting for me at the end of the task—you were my companion in the task itself.
You may not literally stand beside me drying the dishes after I wash them, but our thoughts can meet. My mind can be joined with Yours. Your presence can transform my perspective and give me a deep desire to faithfully do what is in front of me—with joy instead of obligation.
The task itself doesn’t change.
My heart does.
When I see washing dishes as an opportunity to commune with You, an ordinary activity becomes filled with anticipation. It carries a joy that the task alone could never produce.
There isn’t a formula for this because You are living and dynamic. Every day You invite me to know You in fresh ways.
So, Lord, each time I begin another ordinary chore, help me pause and ask, “How will You meet me here?” Teach me to invite You into the smallest moments of my day. Let every mundane task become another opportunity to walk with You.
Jesus, be my helper, my confidant, my closest friend, my encourager, and my strength.
With love and hope,
Faith
